Latika Pathela: DanceAnthem

Written by Punya Haruray

Dance is defined as movement of one’s feet or body, or both, rhythmically in a pattern of steps, especially to the accompaniment of music. Being from a country which is rich in culture, dance is an inevitable part of us. Right from worshipping the great Lord Shiva in the Natraja form to encouraging dance through reality shows to the latest fad of dance fitness in the next door gyms, India has a wide spectrum of dance forms.

For Latika Pathela, dance defines her. The fancy caught her at a young age. After a lot of resistance, she convinced her mom to let her join a dance school for formal training. She started her formal training at the age of 11 in Bollywood and Jazz. She went on to try different dance forms including Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Salsa and Belly Dancing. Soon the hobby metamorphosed to into her passion and profession!

More interesting is her story of how DanceAnthem happened to her. Latika had put her hobby aside and had started working in start ups when one fine day she bumped into her old friend, who was also her dance instructor. They both began talking and realized how much they missed dancing and wanted to get back into it immediately. They thought of promoting dance by doing choreography for weddings, birthday parties, corporate events, shows, workshops, flash mobs etc, and that’s how DanceAnthem began!

Dance anthem is currently a 2 member team but has big future plans. They don’t want to restrict themselves to mere choreography but plan to start classes and travel to other locations for workshops. They plan to develop DanceAnthem into a culture in itself.

Here’s a glimpse of their performances and their work!
