NEW ETIQUETTE TO FOLLOW AT THE GYM DURING CORONA VIRUS
The gym, an escape and haven in the day-to-day lives of millions, has become yet another source of anxiety in the age of corona virus. In our last segment we discussed the pros and cons of exercising with face masks on, now we bring to the table a new set of etiquette or rules that we must adhere to while hitting the nearest gym for a sweat session. We need to understand that even if the center is slowly lifting restrictions during the third phase of unlocking, the pandemic is still very much here and is still dangerous.
As we brace ourselves to live with the new normal, listed hereunder are some precautions that one must follow while exercising in the gym and fitness centres, to keep safe from COVID-19
Avoid peak times: Avoiding the crowds means there won’t be a lot of people touching equipment at the same time. Going as soon as the gym opens, or right after it is cleaned, may also minimize potential exposure. Therefore, best is to strictly follow the allotted time slot.
Carry own water bottle and other supplies: No more reaching out to disposable cups at the water-cooler at the gym, instead, carry own water bottle. Come prepared for a workout session from home only as lockers and changing rooms are most likely to be closed to avoid contraction of infection. Also carry own yoga mat for stretching, towel, sanitizer & disinfectant wipes to clean machines & equipment.
Don’t be too social: Avoid close contact with fellow fitness aficionados
Use the cleaning products provided: Utilize the disinfectant wipes available on the club floor to wipe down machines and equipment after use
Wear the right gear: Consider wearing long workout clothing, because that protects the skin from hosting the virus and bringing it close to mucus membranes.
Wear gym gloves and arm sweatbands while working out: This will ensure two things, one will avoid picking germs and bacteria from the workout equipment and it also prevents from accidentally touching the face. Wearing arm sweatbands stops the sweat from trickling down the face.
Besides the above mentioned rules, the golden rule of social distancing is still applicable, also stay at home, if you are feeling sick, it is strongly advised to keep others safe. Remember, the pandemic is still looming large, so ensure a distance of at least 6 feet from others, at all times. So follow these simple rules, sweat hard, be safe and keep reading….
