Since the corona virus pandemic has taken over the entire world, we all have become conscious to take precautions from this dangerous virus. As each one is supporting social distancing and staying at home, the  kitchen is getting used the most. One is aware that corona virus can live on any surface for several days. That is why, keeping our kitchen clean should be one of the major agendas to stay safe, especially when this is the place where most of the things are brought from outside. Cleaning Up is a two step process: cleaning to remove germs and dirt, then disinfecting to kill remaining germs.

Routinely scrub down kitchen surfaces like counters, the refrigerator, and the sink after putting away groceries, before and after cooking, and at the end of the day. Be sure to use fresh cutting boards, clean dishes in a dishwasher if you can, and give your dining table a once-over before sitting down to a meal.

1. Use Soap And Water

Soap & Water are not just for hands, but also to clean kitchen shelves, counter top, cabinet handles, etc. It’s basic but the most effective way to clean and disinfect.

2. Air-Drying

After cleaning kitchen surfaces, give them enough time to dry out naturally before using them again. Moisture on surfaces can turn it into a breeding ground for bacteria.

3. Disinfect Properly

A regular household cleaner containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide is an effective disinfectant. In fact, any cleaning solution with 60% or more alcohol content is good to clean kitchen surfaces and cabinets. But we should be extra careful while doing this due to the high alcohol content these disinfectants makes it highly flammable.

4. Use the Warm Water to Wash Utensils

Cleaning used utensils with warm water can be another effective way to clean them as the hot water may disinfectant them thoroughly.

One of the best victims of the virus is the place where food is prepared i.e our kitchen. Keep a bottle of disinfectant just a hand away. Some obvious places where cleaning is required is the fridge, microwave, food platforms, vegetable drawers, all the metal and silverware products as they easily get infected. It would be advisable to throw the grocery bags coming from outside. However, to reuse them, soak them in soapy water and dry them in the sun. Empty the kitchen trash daily.
